The FAFSA is required for many scholarships, and will be a HS graduation requirement as well, starting with our graduating class of 2025.
On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, the Legislature passed LB705. Included in LB705 was LB201 which was introduced by Sen. Vargas. Pending the Governor’s signature, with the passage of LB705, all 12th grade students attending a public high school prior to graduation shall either:
- complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid to the US Department of Education, or
- file a waiver that states the student will not submit a Free Application for Federal Student A
This requirement will be in effect starting with the graduating class of 2025. NDE has been charged with writing the rules and regulations and providing the waiver form, so you’ll be hearing more about this in the near future.
Seniors and their parents will have the opportunity to have one-on-one appointments with FAFSA staff this fall here at DPS when the application opens, but if you want to learn more, read here:
