Deshler Public Schools’ juniors and seniors are signed up to take nearly 60 dual credit classes for the fall semester of the 23-24 school year.  Taking a 3-credit hour class at UNL would cost nearly $800 per class.  For the 180 credits that our students are taking, that ends up costing $144,000 in tuition alone.

Because of the agreement between SCC and area high schools, students are able to take these classes at just over $100 per credit hour, resulting in a savings of over $142,000 this semester alone in comparison to UNL.

Many people have made this possible that deserve to be recognized:

  • First, to our school board, for paying for all Math and English dual credits for our seniors.

  • Second, to our staff members who are teaching or proctoring these classes during the regular high school day,

  • Third, to the Norman & Rosella Lunzmann Family, who have set up a memorial scholarship for $300 per semester to be put towards tuition or books, and

  • Fourth, to Reinke Manufacturing for their $250 per semester tuition scholarship.

The students who were recipients of these scholarships are listed below.

  • The Lunzmann Memorial Scholarship winners:

    • 1st Semester:  Gracie Hinz & Abbi Tuma

    • 2nd Semester: Cameron Harding (not pictured) & Stormi Capek

  • Reinke Manufacturing Scholarship winners:

    • 1st Semester: Addyson Hintz

    • 2nd Semester: Jacilyne Peterson

If you are interested in helping any of these students or future students to pay for their dual credit classes, please donate to the LAIR LEADERS account at Midwest Bank or contact Mrs. Epley at the high school.  Checks should be made payable to the Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund.

We would also like to recognize our three seniors nominated for the Believers and Achievers Award.  This award recognizes students who have obtained Scholastic Achievement, Activity Participation, School & Community Involvement, and Citizenship.  The nominees from Deshler Public Schools are seniors Allie Vieselmeyer, Abbigail Tuma, and Stormi Capek.

Congratulations from all of us!
