We are excited to announce that our Lair Leaders (7th-12th), aRise students (grades 5th-8th), and our NHS members are taking part in a unique event on December 13th. On this day, students will be participating in a community service project by traveling to Hastings to pack meals for Hearts and Hands Against Hunger. This is a great opportunity for students to contribute to a meaningful cause and engage in acts of kindness that extend beyond the walls of our school.
Following the community service activity, we have arranged for a community member, Madison Jagels, the Hastings Community Development Director, to address our students on the subject of leadership. Jagels will share insights, experiences, and valuable lessons that will inspire and encourage our students to develop their leadership skills.
We believe that participating in community service and learning about leadership firsthand will not only broaden our students' perspectives but also instill in them the importance of giving back to the community and taking on leadership roles in various aspects of their lives.
Students will leave the school at 8 AM, will need to bring $10 for a boxed lunch from Jimmy Johns, and may want to bring additional money if we stop for a snack later. We plan to be back at the school by 3 PM.
Please ensure that you come prepared for the day. Jeans, a sweatshirt and comfortable shoes would be appropriate attire. You also need to pre order a Jimmy John's Box Lunch. Students were given a sheet to select one sandwich option, one side option and one dessert option to turn in with their money for the meal. We ask that each student pays $10 for their meal. Checks can be payable to Deshler Public Schools.
Hearts & Hands Against Hunger of Hastings is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide nutritious food to hungry and starving children. Hearts & Hands was launched in October of 2008 and has packaged over 8 million meals during this time. It is a community-wide project with clubs, church groups, school groups, college students, businesses, youth groups, and individuals volunteering to pack meals.
