Help us welcome the Porters to DPS! Mr. Porter will serve as our guidance counselor, alongside Mrs. Hannah Kane, currently working on her endorsement, while his wife, Mrs. Porter, will be a secondary paraeducator.
Mr. R. Todd Porter graduated from UNK and has 31 years of experience ranging from teacher and guidance counselor to academic advisor, principal and superintendent. He is marred to June Dodge Porter, who has worked as a teacher and para educator for over 19 years in Nebraska.
The Porters have three sons: Jackson and his wife Abby who live in Plano, Texas, and twin sons Alex and Brady that live in Kearney, Nebraska.
Mr. Porter states that his hobbies are gardening and reading and that "after spending the last 17 years as a school superintendent, I’m excited to return to working directly with students and helping them navigate their path to be the best student and person they can be."
Mrs. Porter graduated from McCook High School and has 20 years of experience as a para in Bartley, Wallace, Tryon and Arlington, NE. Asked about her hobbies, Mrs. Porter states that she "spends a lot of time communicating by email, text, phone, Facebook, and even snail mail with my family and friends from the many towns where we have lived. I like to read. Biography and humor are my favorites. Todd and I like to go for long drives on the weekends and we like to travel. I've been to all of the states, but Alaska, so that is on my bucket list. We are flower gardeners. I like to bake and cook."
And of course the question to "Why Deshler?" finds the Porters stating they are looking forward to being back in a small town, where there are midwestern values and the atmosphere that comes with that way of life. They stated they have heard great things about Deshler, and they are looking forward to being a part of it. We are looking forward to having them, and welcome to DPS!
