Ms. Diane Freitas may be new to Deshler Public Schools, but she is not new to the field of education. Freitas graduated from York College, now York University, before becoming a teacher in August of 2021, teaching grades 7-9 in English-Language Arts, as well as ACT Test Prep and Speech, for the past three years at Johnson-Brock. In addition to this role, she has served as a paraeducator for ESU #9 and as a subsitute teacher for McCool Junction.
Freitas has two adult children, Deidre and Daniel, as well as several wonderful friends that she considers family. She loves to travel, hike, play disc golf, geocache, and read. When the weather keeps her from enjoying these activities, she enjoys playing ping pong and her piano (very much a beginner). Just recently, Freitas learned to play Pickleball and would like to start playing again. This summer, she has plans to visit Spain and Morocco, and expressed that she is excited to visit the African continent for the first time.
Teaching high school is where her true passion is and she believes she has a unique perspective that has the most impact in this age group. Because reading, writing, speaking and listening are lifelong skills that touch all aspects of our lives, both personally and professionally, Freitas' belief is that being able to effectively communicate through speaking and writing is critical as individuals and in our relationships with others. Freitas stated, "I want to help each and every student to find their voice."
Welcome to Ms. Freitas, and again, we wish the best of luck to Mrs. Linda Brown on her retirement. Ms. Freitas will be located in the high school English room.
