Senior Jacilyne Peterson is on track to be the first Deshler student to graduate from Southeast Community College with a community college certificate AND 45 total credit hours completed! Jacilyne is the daughter of Cody and Shawna Peterson of Deshler, and on top of her drive in the classroom, is also planning to play basketball or run track while finishing her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at the next level.
Jacilyne started taking dual credit classes as a junior, and in the first semester of her senior year, has been enrolled in 15 credits - currently earning an "A" in all of these classes. By graduation time in May, Jacilyne will have completed 45 college credits, equivalent to that of a full-time college student, and is on track to earn her Criminal Justice certificate from SCC in May 2025, should she choose to take part in the graduation ceremony.
Classes that Jacilyne has taken while at Deshler Public Schools include:

Interested in either Midland University or York College, Jacilyne did the cost savings and found out that she would have saved nearly $100,000 by completing these credits while still in high school, if you factor in tuition, room and board, and the cost of books at Midland University!
On top of this, Jacilyne is involved in several extracurricular activities at DPS, including:
Volleyball
Basketball
Track
Felowship of Christian Athletes
FFA
Student Council
National Honor Society
Cheer
D-Club (Lettermen’s Club)
Jacilyne is also active in her 4-H group, Big Green. Dragon Nation is incredibly proud of Jacilyne’s drive to push herself both inside and outside of the classroom. While Jacilyne has the opportunity to take part in the SCC graduation in May 2025, she is unsure if she will go that route, or just take her diploma in the mail.
Regardless, we are beyond proud of Jacilyne and wish her the very best in her future endeavors...we have no doubt that with her work ethic, she will be incredibly successful!
